We just got back from the Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF39) and it was a blast! The film community in Cleveland is strong and passionate, and the city itself was lovely. Also, I was delighted to have packed houses for all of our screenings--they even had to open up an extra theater for overflow! Here's an interview with the writer/director Liz Manashil and me about our film, Bread and Butter. We discuss how I landed the role, how the film got funding, and more... According to Deadline, CSI is hoping to break the world record for Largest Ever TV Drama Simulcast. With the premiere of the new spinoff CSI: Cyber (starring *Oscar winner* Patricia Arquette!), CBS is planning to air the show in over 150 countries on March 4th at 4pm (Pacific Time), as well as streaming it from 4pm until midnight. With this simulcast, the show will dethrone Doctor Who, which had the honor when it aired the 50th anniversary special. Will you be watching CSI on March 4th? I'm taking a little extra interest in this because I recently worked on CSI: Cyber! More on that once the episode premieres (early May!)... Some new festival announcements have got the Bread and Butter team excited! Last year we started the festival circuit off with a band in New York where we premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival, and then won "Best Feature" at the Big Apple Film Festival. Now we've got two more States to add to the list... Bread and Butter will be screening at the Big Muddy Festival in Illinois on February 26th @ 7pm, and then at the Phoenix Film Festival in Arizona on March 27th - 29th! Hopefully we will be coming to a theater near you... In the meantime, here's our trailer: I've been meaning to sit down and write this post for awhile, but I guess I was waiting for the euphoria to dissipate so I could sit back and write a real account of our trip to the Woodstock Film Festival. The euphoria didn't vanish, but time has marched on and I thought it was time to share the details of our trip. The Woodstock Film Festival is an incredible festival --I may be biased!-- in upstate New York, which that champions films that are "fiercely independent". This year's festival took place October 15th - 19th and screened 30 narrative feature films. I had never been to this festival before, let alone to upstate New York, so this was a particularly special trip. I could not wait for Bread and Butter to have its festival premiere! Our days were packed. In addition to all of the screenings, panels and parties, we spent a lot of time in the filmmakers lounge, meeting the staff and filmmakers who make this festival so special. We also paired with the local bakery, Bread Alone, to give out bread and butter and promote our film (Bread and Butter, get it?). All of this excitement culminated in our two incredible screenings: Saturday 10/18 at Upstate Films in Rhinebeck and Sunday 10/19 at Bearsville Theater in Woodstock (the final screening of the festival!). It was touching to see how engaged audiences were with our film and to hear strangers discussing details from the movie. I seriously cannot wait for the film to reach more audiences! All in all, Woodstock was a magical week for the whole Bread and Butter team. I am so proud of our team and so incredibly grateful that we could be a part of the festival. Earlier this August I had the great pleasure of workshopping two new scripts written by my good friend, Rebecca George. A few months ago she and Semone Leifer came to me to discuss the possibility of bringing them to the stage. Over the course of the subsequent months we researched venues in LA and all the nitty gritty details to bring the show(s) to life.
Eventually we settled on The Missing Piece Theater in Burbank, and I'm quite pleased with the results! We gathered together a stellar cast and also paired our reading with a musical performance by Erik Canzona (who just released his solo album "The Narrows"). Also, bonus points to my sister Jenny who designed a lovely program for the event! Hopefully down the line there will be some new developments to share with you about each show... :) |
